If So, Then What?

If within the desolate darkness
the fleeting figures seen
should come and be beside me
could I really scream?

The folding encompassing ropes
handled aptly by those unseen
were to tighten ’round my throat
would I faint into a dream?

The powers and unknown forces
pulling with all their might
if God is really with me
need I even fight?

If all I am is not
If all you are is none
If we together feel not
Are we then but one?

Seeing faintly, glimmering hopes
they dance within my mind
the world’s ghastly ogres
my soul will never find!

I seek to find my truth
you seek to show me none
The “you” I know are many
when I am only one.

My mind is always searching
for what I never know
and is it ever finding
thos things which were unknown?

But true to my beliefs
I know I will remain
and thinking on my fellow man
why am I so sane?

I’ve sought and searched, within, without
my very shell and core
and as with any one who knows
my soul can not ignore.

If all I am is not
If all you are is none
If we together feel not
Are we then but one?
