Cookies, Cranes and Terrariums on the Brain

I love Sundays. It seems frequent that these are the days I have the tendency to feel creative and alive, desiring to share something fresh with others. I woke early today and although I was slightly saddened to find I didn’t quite have enough ground coffee, I made some instant and busied myself with baking some oatmeal raisin cookies. I had tidied up the kitchen beforehand and then settled onto the couch with my trusty laptop for some entertaining exploration as I sipped my steamy cuppa joe. The window was open just enough in the living room to allow a touch of the chill morning air to tickle my toes as they stuck out of my lap quilt. It’s an altogether cozy atmosphere for just relaxing and frittering the day away with pleasurably pointless pursuits lol. I really like my current apartment, even though I’d be ever so much happier if it had a balcony. It’s been a particularly great day for researching on the internet while my bread rises since I absolutely LOVE the sound of the drizzling rain against the apartment and the gray clouds hugging the horizon and filling the skies. Some might think it dreary weather but I love the kind of weather that puts you in the mood for thinking and tea/coffee.

I thought I’d invite you in for a peek at my cozy apartment. Here’s a pic I took with my BlackBerry Curve 8520 just a bit ago.

This is the view of my living room from the kitchen. (I was standing on a chair.) My little couch where I’ve been hanging out most of today is on the right wall by the coffee table, a little hard to see because of the Peace Lily plant on Whitebeard’s fishbowl.

You can see the rose paper crane that I made this morning next to the fish bowl and my cookie jar. I actually had just learned to make them today after reading instructions on part of the  Storm the Castle site. I made a practice one right before with construction paper (not advised) and then this was my second one. I thought it came out pretty good! I’m pretty sure I won’t be focusing on making 1,000 cranes to make a wish as the legend goes but I was happy to finally take a few minutes to learn to make them. I still have two miniature cranes that my friend made for me and they live happily on a shelf of my bookcase. I don’t remember exactly how I found the web site, but if you haven’t ever been there, I highly recommend it. Lots of creative and awesome projects, you could spend all day just on that site alone and if you are at all a hobbyist, I’m sure you’ll find something cool there.

Here’s a close-up of my crane.

Incidently, I just remembered, I found the site because I was researching terrariums!! There is a section of the site dedicated to terrariums with great tutorials and pictures so head there if you want to find some good tutorials.

If you ever wondered how I came up with the title of my blog, The Path of Randomosity, how I spent my day today is really a great example. Why did I start researching terrariums when I started my day with coffee, baking and reading about my personality type? Well because I was reading my current Entrepreneur magazine when I took a break from the type articles I was reading online. One of the magazine articles happened to have this picture of a hanging, ornament style, micro-terrarium that I thought was just amazing so when I finished reading the article I wanted to look for some online. I’ve thought terrariums were cool since I was young and I wondered if you could easily buy these hanging, globe gardens. It’s beginning to feel like spring around here and I’ve been itching to plant things. I don’t really have space outside that I can garden in, so I thought this would be a fun idea for indoors.

Here’s a picture from the Far Out Flora blog so you’ll see what I’m talking about. This is a really lovely example and if you go click the picture to go to that page you’ll see some other great examples as well.

You can get so creative with these and you really don’t need a little globe like this to make a terrarium, I just thought they looked fun and unique. A quick Google search will show you an astounding number of options and ideas for terrarium styles and projects and you would run out of room before running out of cool ideas of what kind of terrarium to make.

What else have I done today? Hmm…laundry. I tend to do laundry on Sundays for some reason. I think it’s nice because you can do other things while clothes are washing/drying and it still feels fairly relaxing even though you’re getting something done. I also felt like blogging a bit and so here we are. I’ve shared a bit of my day with you as I listen to the lovely sound of cars driving outside on wet pavement (LOVE IT!).

I think it’s time for another cuppa joe so until next time…happy traveling!
